Mock Duck – how often have I heard about it, how often do you come across some at asian stores or vegan online stores? Quite often actually, especially the mock products of this brand in blue labelled cans.

It is produced by Wu Chung Eatables Factory Co. Ltd. and depending where you get it, the costs are about 1,40€ per can. There also is Mock Pork, orMock Chicken. I already heard several times that these mock products would look very much like real meat and some people already described the look as disgusting.

I am too curious in trying different vegan products, therefore I also had to try this one. The label on the can already shows a picture from which you wouldn´t guess there was no meat in the can. When I opened the can it also looked exactly like on the picture. I tried it and it had very few taste, actually more like vinegar. When I added a large amount of soy sauce into the can for bit more of taste you could eat it. But not cold, of course. In my opinion you will have to spice it very well when preparing. Honestly, I couldn´t take too much of it.



Mock Duck – wie oft habe ich davon gehört, wie oft findet man es in Asialäden oder veganen Online Shops? Recht häufig eigentlich, besonders die Mock-Produkte dieses Herstellers in der blauen Dose.

Hergestellt wirde es von der Wu Chung Eatables Factory Co. Ltd. und je nach dem wo man es kauft, kostet es um die 1,40€ pro Dose. Ich habe bereits öfter von diesen Mock-Produkten gehört, dass sie echtem Fleisch sehr ähnlich sehen würden und manche den Anblick bereits abstoßend fanden.

Ich bin zu neugierig verschiedene vegane Produkte anzutesten, also musste ich das hier ja auch probieren. Das Etikett auf der Dose zeigt schon ein Bild, wo man nicht gerade davon ausgehen würde, dass in dieser Dose kein Fleisch ist. Als ich die Dose öffnete, sah der Inhalt genauso auch aus wie auf dem Bild. Ich habe es probiert und fand, es hatte kaum Eigengeschmack, sogar eher etwas nach Essig. Nachdem ich großzügig Sojasoße in die Dose gegeben habe für etwas mehr Geschmack, ging es eigentlich. Kalt sollte man es natürlich nicht gerade essen. Ich finde, man muss es sehr gut würzen beim Zubereiten. Ehrlich gesagt, ich konnte davon nicht allzuviel essen.


  1. I don’t know if my last comment went through. I’ve had this type of seitan before and I usually just add it to Thai coconut curry or stir fries or slather a lot of peanut sauce over it. It’s very unappetizing.

  2. LOL I think that´s the best way of consuming it before throwing it all away: a lot of spices and other tastes. I´m glad there are other alternatives which are a lot better.

  3. It’s not so bad, honest! Just put the stuff in a colander and drain away the liquid, then brown it with some oil and onions, then you can add it to like curries and stir-fries and stuff. It’s uh-mazing with hoisin sauce.
